East Anglian Folklore Centre

East Anglian Folklore Centre at HAHC

We’re pleased to welcome the East Anglian Folklore Centre to Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre. They’re now based in Room Six on the first floor, and there’s plenty to discover.

Founded by Gemma Garwood and Bethan Briggs-Miller, the centre brings together folklore, storytelling and traditional crafts. Some of you may already know Bethan as one half of the Eerie Essex podcast team.

There’s a research library, a shop and a mini straw museum celebrating the craft of working with straw. The team also organise storytelling events and creative workshops, with details available through their website. If you’re interested in local legends, old customs or learning a traditional craft, do have a look at what they’re doing.

The centre is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from ten am to four pm. Visits on Wednesdays are by appointment only, between two pm and four pm. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Opening hours can occasionally change, so please check their website or social media before making a special trip.

Please be aware that Room Six is on the first floor and can currently only be reached by stairs. There is currently no wheelchair access to the room (we’re working on it). The ground floor of HAHC is wheelchair accessible. If you would like to discuss access before visiting, please contact the Folklore team.

You’ll find us on Main Road, Dovercourt, CO12 4AJ.

For enquiries or to arrange a Wednesday visit, email eastanglianfolklorecentre@gmail.com. You can find more information at www.eastanglianfolklorecentre.co.uk and follow the East Anglian Folklore Centre on Facebook and Instagram.

It’s lovely to have them here. Do pop in and say hello.
