This April, we welcome back Duffy Tomei to the Harwich Arts & Heritage Centre. Check out her latest exhibition which runs from Friday 5th April until Wednesday 1st May.
A bit about me, I recently married and changed my name, but remain Duffy Tomei Artist.
I painted my first picture in May 2018 and, at first, tiptoed tentatively into the world of art with little confidence. Inspired with this new past time, I signed up for every art workshop I could afford, whatever the medium, and in doing so, developed a good understanding an awareness of the basic techniques of painting. I now teach one to one and lead a monthly art workshop in Walton on the Naze.Having an interest in watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel, collage, charcoal and polychromo pencils, I don’t stand still in one place for long, preferring to skip from one medium, style and subject matter to the next. I therefore have an eclectic mix of paintings in my catalogue of work, and am very adaptable when it comes to commissions.
My exhibition entitled Emotional Turmoil is nothing to do with my personal life although, like most, I won’t deny there’s been some. No, the title was inspired simply from looking through my back catalogue to see what paintings I might like to include with my latest pieces for this exhibition.
I’ve been exploring figurative work for the past few months and been drawn to faces and bodies clearly expressing a mood. As I looked for appropriate work to support these figurative pieces, I was reminded of my seascapes that vary from calm peaceful views to more tumultuous water scenes. The contrast of seas and create an interesting mix of emotions and thus, Emotional Turmoil was born.
