Christine Alexander Biography – ‘Folds of Time’
Christine Alexander is a multidisciplined British artist experimenting with photography, digital media, installation, textiles and painting. She regularly exhibits as a member of Colchester Art Society and Colchester Photographic Society.
Her recent research into the sublime in art has led to further explorations into time and memory.
In this exhibition ‘Folds of Time’ Christine explores objects and images that trigger personal and shared memory; specifically, paper fortune tellers. She draws on her childhood experiences and recollections. Christine presents mixed media artwork using photography, collage and stitch.
The paper fortune teller is evocative and poignant. It relates to our memories of the past and hopes for the future and evokes a sense of nostalgia. Christine recalls hiding messages to friends within the paper folds and invites you to revisit childhood memories by creating your own fortune teller and writing your own messages.
