PEBBLE PATCHWORK a public art project by Monique de Vlieger for the Harwich Festival of the Arts 2025.
This year we’ve been inspired by the pebbles covering the local beaches, beautifully polished by the sea and all unique.
Get creative and help make another colourful artwork to brighten up the Harwich quayside over the summer season. To help create this patchwork please make one or more ‘pebbles ‘out of fabric, any shape but no larger than an A4 piece of paper. There are a few patterns on below to give you some ideas. The end result needs to be a flat piece of fabric which we will then stitch on to a large piece of backing material to create our patchwork. If using beads or other hard materials please keep them away from the edges of your work so that we won’t be breaking any needles on our sewing machine while stitching the pebbles onto the backing material. Don’t worry too much about the neatness of the edges just stitch round them a couple of times to stop them fraying. Colourful fabrics and decorations will work best to create an eye-catching display.
We’ll be running free workshops on 24th February, 3rd March and 10th March 10.30am to 12.00pm at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre/ Harwich Library.
Finished pebbles can be handed in at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre, weekdays between 10.00 and 16.00 and on the first Saturday of the month between 10.00 and 13.00. Closing date for the pebbles will be Friday 23rd May.
